STEAM Lessons and Projects
All grade levels participate in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) lessons and projects throughout the school year.
Bee-bots are little robots that are great for teaching about sequencing, directional language, coding, and algorithms. K-1 students connected the little robots to their study of real pollinators they learned about, observed, and took counts of (data collection) in the Willow Springs gardens.

Fourth graders engineered their own hand pollinators in this ecologically important STEAM challenge. Just like farmers in China where they need to hand pollinate their crops because there simply are not enough bees.
Fifth graders explore the physical properties of their materials as they prepare to design wave motion simulators to keep Giant Kelp alive at an aquarium exhibit.
Second graders in Ms. Matthias’s class tested canoes they designed and created as they learned about physical properties of different materials, such as density. Great complement to their Native American study!
