National History Bee and National Geography Bee Finalist
International Academic Competitions (IAC) organizes competitions in 40+ countries, including the National Science Bee, National History Bee, and the US Division of the International Geography Bee. Each Bee has an Online Qualifying Exam, Regional Finals tournaments in the 2022-2023 academic year, and National Championships which will next be held in Washington, DC and Arlington, VA in June 2023. 2,000 students are expected to attend.
IAC’s mission is to reward academic excellence by bringing innovative, stimulating, fair, and relevant competition opportunities to students around the world. Academic competitions have a unique role to play in the education of students by encouraging them to explore new areas of knowledge while rewarding achievement inside the classroom and igniting a passion for lifelong learning.
To reach Nationals, Sauren had to start by taking an online qualifying examination in each subject area, History, and Geography. He was required to get a score of 90% or higher to be eligible for the regional competition. Sauren then competed in the Northern Virginia Regional History Bee and Geography Bee in March. He also qualifies to compete in the International History Olympiad in July being held in Rome, Italy.
The History Bee and Geography Bee competitions are both buzzer-based quiz competitions for individual students. At the Regional competition after 3 rounds in each bee, Sauren was a top 3 finalist in both subjects and continued on into the final round of each bee. In the History Bee Final, he was the highest scorer and won the Gold Medal and in the Geography Bee, he placed second and received a Silver Medal.
This year’s National Championship will feature more than a dozen buzzer-based and exam-based academic competitions for the best of the best players from around the country!
We are very proud of Sauren for all that he has accomplished and are rooting for him as he competes in the National Championship!
