Best Buddies Office Assistant, Mrs. Renata Claudio, and her 6th grade buddy have lunch together every week and enjoy spending time together talking, doing crafts, and more! They clearly have a very special bond. A Note from the Principal's DeskDear Willow Springs families,
The weather this week has given us a taste of spring and reminded us of the warmer, longer, and sunnier days that will be here before we know it. The climate inside of our school also feels like spring. Everyone is buzzing with activity as we learn and grow together. This is the time of year when we get to see how much students have blossomed and learned this year. We can look back on the first semester and remember where we all started and feel personal pride in how far we have come! We KNOW we will accomplish even more great things together in this second half of the school year.
Students' grades are now available for parents to see in SIS ParentVUE. Once in ParentVUE, you can see your child's grades, attendance, test scores and more. We encourage all parents to check the grades and have conversations with your children about what is working well at school and what is one thing your child wants to work on changing or improving. Then set one or a few simple goals to work towards each day.
Thank you for sending us your best every day! #WillowPride
With warm wishes,
Dylan Taylor, Principal
Ipsa Stringer, Assistant Principal
Laura Tapper, Assistant Principal

During the month of February, we are conducting a community service project for our local animal shelter. We will be collecting items from an approved list (see photo above and see attached). Please be sure the items donated are on this list or we will not be able to accept them. We will collect items from February 1-28. The class with the most donations by February 28 will earn a pizza party!
Found It!If your child(ren) has lost something, we have probably found it and it is now hanging on our Lost and Found cart in the lobby near the main entrance.
Please encourage your child to check this area closely to find any lost items. Parents are also welcome to stop and browse.
Any items not claimed by the end of February will be donated to a local charity.

PTA Volunteer & Leadership OpportunitiesWe have three volunteer leadership opportunities coming up. Please consider giving your time to the Willow Springs PTA through one of these opportunities!
Yearbook CommitteeThe PTA seeks two people to support the publication of the school Yearbook. In partnership with PTA Vice President, Marci Sackie, these roles are largely behind the scenes and able to be done from home. Ideally, these volunteers would commit to two years in these roles. For more information or to volunteer, please email [email protected].
Spirit Night LeadThe PTA's annual Spirit Night is one of the most exciting events of the year. Featuring the Green vs. Blue Willow Springs staff teams, our whole community comes together for this great event!
This year's event is scheduled on Friday, March 28th at 7 PM in the Fairfax High School Field House Gym.
The PTA seeks a volunteer to help plan this effort in partnership with PTA President Elizabeth Shapiro. For more information or to volunteer, please email [email protected].
Nominating Committee MembersIt may seem hard to imagine as we kick off 2025, but Spring is just around the corner. The PTA seeks members to serve on the 2025 Nominating Committee. This committee reviews applications and recommends the slate of Executive Officers for the vote of the PTA membership. PTA Vice President Marci Sackie is managing the committee this year. For more information or to volunteer, please email [email protected].
Virginia’s Student Assessment Summary for FamiliesThis month, families of students who took any Standards of Learning (SOL) test between school years 2015-16 and 2023-24 will receive a Student Assessment Summary Report. The report shows a student’s state percentile ranking for each test. This allows families to see how their child ranked compared to all Virginia students who took the same test that year.
Reports are available now in SIS ParentVUE Documents. They were distributed to students whose families do not have ParentVUE access on Monday, February 3. Learn how to access ParentVUE.
The report is intended to help families reflect on how their child performed across all tested subjects over the years. Our staff members are committed to working with families to help every student reach their highest potential. Learn more about student assessments in FCPS.

Spring 2025 SOL Testing CalendarAs you plan your spring and summer activities and travel, please keep in mind that our 3rd - 6th grade students will be taking standardized tests (SOLs) in May and June.
If you can avoid traveling or appointments that will keep your child out of school on a scheduled testing date, that would be greatly appreciated and will benefit your child. Students tend to prefer taking these tests in their classrooms and learning spaces with their peers and their usual teachers. When students are absent on a testing day, they are eligible for a makeup opportunity, but the makeup test will be given by any available staff, and it will not take place in the classroom.
The calendar is linked here. Please know the schedule is subject to change.
We will be sharing more information about testing in the coming weeks and months. Please stay tuned and attend PTA meetings to learn more.
